Studio A4 Residency at Primary
Eelyn will spend October 2025 at Primary, as part of the Studio A4 residency programme - an uncommon opportunity for artists to develop new work in Nottingham, and work amongst resident artists at Primary.
Eelyn was awarded the Primary Residency Prize, an award presented to an exceptional artist participating in the annual open exhibition at the New Art Exchange, supporting Nottinghamshire-based artists, and artists of Global Ethnic Majority backgrounds living anywhere in the UK. Eelyn was awarded the prize for her work Four Quadrants of the Sky 四大神獸.
During the residency, Eelyn will explore current themes in her practice including procession, water ecologies, myth, and ritual. She'll be using the studio space to extend thinking from collaborative projects and collective research through drawing, painting and collage.
This active reflection will inform the development of Diaspora Dreaming, a new immersive installation exploring diasporic memory - the state of holding multiple landscapes and cultural knowledges within the body - weaving narrative strands across time and space. Eelyn is interested in how a dream state can offer a different way of seeing - ‘not a parallel world, but the world in another register, another potency’, according to indigenous philosopher, Ailton Krenak.
During her residency, Eelyn will be developing her networks with East and Southeast Asian [ESEA] communities in the city, and is hosting a workshop for ESEA folk on Sunday 26th October, 2-5pm. More details here.
