Born on Sunday Silent is based on the true story of Kai Akosua Mansah, a baby who was born and died in Sheffield in 1902. Writer, Désirée Reynolds recovered the story through her short story Born on Sunday Silent [Book of Sheffield, Comma Press 2019]. In 2023, Désirée collaborated with filmmaker Eelyn Lee to re-imagine the story as a short gothic drama. Produced by Tyke Films and supported by BFI Network.

Looking at the immaterial ways of oral storytelling and its significance in preserving memory, history and legacy, May They Remember Us, is a celebration of the fragments which have remained and the people uncovered, while grieving the moments we’ll never know of. From ancestral stories, stories passed on between women in a family, and online preservation of one specific moment.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with filmmaker Reman Sadani to discuss her work around archives and oral storytelling.

May They Remember Us is inspired by the Women’s Museum, Materiality of Memory –a programme exploring how memories are held, shaped, and passed on, and whose stories are preserved within cultural history.
